We are an Eco School!...with our very own Green Flag!

This academic year, the children and staff at Dorking Nursery received international accreditation for their exceptional work in promoting sustainability and raising environmental awareness amongst their peers.

We are thrilled to announce that Dorking Nursery School have earned their first ‘Eco-Schools Green Flag Award’! This is down to the passion and hard work that the whole school have put in to becoming more sustainable, caring for the environment, raising awareness with our staff, families and children in ways we can all help our planet. We are incredibly proud that we have achieved this award and look forward to building on this each year; continuing to teach our children about sustainability and best eco practices at the very beginning of their educational journey.

The Eco-Schools programme, established in 1994, is now implemented in over 70 countries worldwide. In 2023-24, more than 1.4 million pupils attended an Eco-School in England.

The children, supported by our staff Eco-Committee comprising of Lisa, Nicky, Sue and Sarah  used Eco-Schools’ tried-and-trusted seven-step framework to create positive change. They first conducted a thorough review of their school environment and curriculum, before developing a year-long plan of action.

Dorking Litter Pick! We took part in the local community litter pick last Friday and the children tidied and collected rubbish from the nursery grounds. They are becoming caring and responsible citizens and know that they need to pick up litter 'to stop the animals eating it and getting poorly'. This is one more step towards becoming an Eco School and gaining our Green Eco Flag.

Sponsored obstacle event! All our children took part in various fun physical challenges last month. Thank you to all of you who sponsored the children - you raised an incredible £975 which will be spent on improving our outdoor spaces and making improvements to the pond area in our Woodland.

Thank you FOND! With thanks for all your fabulous fundraising recently we have been able to purchase a new bike and scooter rack for our children to use!

A visit from Pudsey! - can you believe it - a celebrity visited us today as a thank you for all the wonderful donations for Children In Need!
